The kitchen fitter service in this instance was on the ground floor with easy access and the kitchen was supplied by IKEA Kitchens
The client wanted to use our kitchen fitter service’s but in the end we done a full kitchen refurbishment instead
The client wanted the sink in a new location which can bring some challenges for any kitchen fitter. The kitchen was about 4 meters by 3 meters so this was not a small kitchen. The original kitchen sink was next to the window but they wanted to move the sink to the main 4 meter wall next to the front room wall and the window wall would be turned into double doors.
When installing new drainage for a kitchen in a new location some checks have to be carried out to find out if there is some other waste pipe near the original drainage point, if not you will have to run the new 40mm waste pipe again from the new sink location.
This could give you some problems which a normal kitchen plan will not allow for in most respects.
HOW TO RESOLVE THE CHALLENGE BELOW:
1) Make sure that there is no other waste pipes you can connect to before having your kitchen design completed. Make sure your waste pipe location is the nearest one.
2) The kitchen fitter will need to know if there is enough fall for the pipe work from the new kitchen sink location to the original waste drainage point.
If there is not enough fall on the pipework the water waste will not drain away.
3) Make sure that there is a service gap on the back of the kitchen you are buying because not all kitchens have a service gap at the back of the units to accommodate pipes and cables
In my clients case unfortunately the IKEA kitchen we installed didn’t have a service gap on the back of the units so we had to buy a worktop that was wider than 640mm.
We then had to pull the kitchen base units forward 50mm so in total we moved the units forward in total 650mm.
The client had buy a wider worktop as standard worktop is around 600mm and then we cut the wider worktop to suite.
This will not always work as the kitchen design had to altered but we got there in the end.
