Here at JW McDonald Building Services we see a lot of kitchen fitter or refurbishment estimated cost requests and they vary vastly, so in this blog we want pass on some helpful information to help you get a better idea of costing.
The main cost of any kitchen renovation or refurbishment costing is the labour and the kitchen itself. We can supply and fit your kitchen for you with our very good discounts but if you want to buy your own kitchen we can just provide the kitchen installation or kitchen fitter service by itself.
We see a lot of the kitchen companies will try to save the client money on the kitchen cost by giving the client the choice of cheaper options that will reduce the overall cost of the kitchen. This can be a grey area but I wanted to highlight some pitfalls to these options.
The first choice is to option that your kitchen come as flat pack or we call it build it yourself kitchen. This will mean that everything comes in pieces and the kitchen fitter will have to assemble the base units and wall units. This saves the kitchen supplier money and they pass some of this savings to you the customer but what they will not tell you is that the kitchen fitter will charge more to make up the kitchen that comes flat pack. The cost of building the kitchen units can vary and will more than likely cost more than the saving you just pocketed.
We advise to always get an estimated cost for both so you can see if you have made any savings. We always charge more to make a flat pack kitchen and this leads to a lot of disappointment. One example is quality is sometimes compromised and then what happens often is parts are missing, causing delays in building and that can cost you more in lost time being funded by you too.
The second cost saving we come across is when the kitchen suppliers say to save money on the door hinges, draw sliding mechanism’s and soft closer’s. This is more of a personal choice and in our opinion the functionality of the kitchen is always compromised as well as the longevity of the components are cheap and not so well made.
